Additionally, because the state of Florida imposes a mandatory minimum sentencing requirement, certain crimes carry major penalties. Felony penalties in Florida can be categorized by the following:
- Capital crime - punishable by death or life imprisonment without parole

- Second-degree felony - punishable by up to $10,000 in fines or no more than 15 years imprisonment, or both
